Diane's Story

Diane was determined to stay safely in her home, where she and her husband Richard had shared a lifetime of memories. But declining mobility made everyday tasks dangerous, and a painful fall last spring was a wake-up call. Then Diane saw a story on TV about Disability Advocates and reached out for help. Our Occupational Therapist, Terese, visited their home to assess their needs. She saw Diane struggling to sidestep down the front steps, gripping the railing with both hands. Inside, steep basement stairs without railings and a bathtub Diane couldn’t step into made the home unsafe. Thanks to community support, Disability Advocates made critical modifications: wider steps with handrails, a tub cut for easy access, and new railings to navigate the basement safely. Now, Diane and Richard can move around their home with confidence, knowing they are safe and more independent.
Diane’s Quote:
“Without the Disability Advocates, I’d probably be in a nursing home right now.”
