Disability Awareness Day 2025
A day for connection, empowerment, and action where persons with disabilities, advocates, agency staff and others gather to learn new skills, discover community resources and advocate with local elected leaders.
Disability Awareness Day 2025, attended by over 150 people, featured a powerful keynote speaker, Melba Velez Ortiz, who presented on the power of communication as a tool for advocacy and self-expression, especially for individuals with visible and invisible disabilities. Additionally, breakouts featured additional information on communication, including AI and assistive technology and communicating with the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing community, and a breakdown of funding for Medicaid, including and the impact of proposed cuts to it.
