We provide guidance on safe accessible housing, employment resources and readiness classes, transportation resources, navigation through government benefits, and social opportunities to equip individuals with disabilities with the knowledge needed to live independently.
Our program is focused on assisting individuals who wish to live independently and obtain gainful employment.
First, we provide an assessment to determine the nature or scope of services that will be included in our goals and planning. Our plan is created together and based on individual needs related to functional capacities, educational achievements, work experience, vocational aptitudes, personal and social adjustments, and employment opportunities of the individual. We also discuss and consider the medical, psychiatric, psychological, and other pertinent vocational, educational, cultural, social recreational, and environmental factors that affect the employment and rehabilitation needs of the individual.
- Understanding the impact of earning against Supplemental Security Income.
- We can explain other benefits such as retirement options and survivor benefits.
- Providing insight to new benefits such as health insurance choices for programs such as HMO’s, PPO’s, retirement investing differences between programs such as a 401K, 457, and supplemental offerings.
- These services will assist individuals in acquiring personal habits, attitudes, and skills in order to function effectively on a job, develop or increase work tolerance prior to engaging in vocational training or employment, develop work habits and orient the client to the world of work, providing skills or techniques to compensate for losses due to disability, or assist in acquiring job-seeking skills and locating employment.
- Workshop Readiness Training designed to address competencies needed to retain employment. Topics include interview training and mock interviews, competencies needed to retain employment and to grow in a job. - Work/Personal Adjustment Training: This programming will coach and build skills to address struggles/barriers as individually identified including, but not limited to: goal setting, communication, workplace behaviors, relationship skills, disability awareness, how to speak about disability, employment advocacy, preparing for interviews, on-the-job skills, problem solving, how to search for jobs, prepare and submit resumes, and much more!
- On-Line Job Searching: Basic training which consists of Online applications, how to prepare for the process, uploading resumes, cover letters, completing applications, and follow-up mechanisms.
In-Person Application Training
Putting together a great resume package which includes a cover letter, resume, and printed application, follow-up scripts for the phone and in writing, working with online application systems, and how to make a positive first impression.
Employers are looking for the right skills and the right fit. They want to know if a person is both able to do the job and if they desire to do the job. Core values of most employers include dependability, initiative, positive attitude, cooperation, willingness to learn new things, productivity. It is helpful for consumers to know how to address background check questions, and address questions about salary and benefits.
Soft Skills Training
