We are Disability Advocates: Ella Bonner

Ella Bonner recently joined the Workforce Development department at Disability Advocates of Kent County. We are excited to welcome our new Youth Transitions Specialist to the team!

Ella brings over 18 years of experience with Grand Rapids Public Schools as a Certified Employment Training Specialist.  She has also volunteered at a variety of local nonprofit organizations including In the Image, Frederick Meijer Gardens, CA Frost School, and No Greater Love Ministries.

How did get you interested in working with Disability Advocates of Kent County?

My mom has always been a special education teacher. I was exposed to a young age to working with that population. I learned from her passion how to make a difference in the lives of young people. I did the same thing with my kids, passing down that passion.

Tell us about what you will be working on in your new role.

I will be working with young people between the ages of 14 to 18 years old and preparing them with job-readiness skills. We will work on resumes, filling out an application correctly, and mock interviews.

What are you excited about in your role?

I am looking forward to helping young people navigate the employment process and their personal journeys.

How do you like to spend your downtime?

I am a very family-oriented person. I am a grandma of six and a mother of five. I am about passionate about my relationship with God, and I volunteer for my church. I am a servant at heart. That’s my passion.
