Legacy Trust Award Collection
An ArtPrize 2010 Entry Competition

VSA is soliciting artwork entries created by adult artists with disabilities for the Legacy Trust Award Collection of ArtPrize 2010.

ArtPrize is a radically open art competition, giving away the world's largest art prize. Part arts festival, part social experiment - this international art contest is decided solely on a public vote. ArtPrize runs September 22 through October 10, 2010 in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. This award collection has been designed to assist adult artists with disabilities to participate in a preliminary art competition with three winning artists moving forward to compete in ArtPrize 2010 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as the Legacy Trust Award Collection.

Artist registration for this Award must be received by May 3, 2010 and must have artwork delivered to VSA in Grand Rapids, MI by 11:00 am on May 13, 2010 for the voting artists’ reception.

Artwork will be voted on during the Artists’ Reception on May 13, 2010. The top three artists will receive the Legacy Trust Collection Award and will be individually entered into ArtPrize 2010, which will take place in Grand Rapids, Michigan from September 22 - October 10, 2010.

Guidelines for Submitting Artwork

All artists must submit an Artist Registration to VSA by Monday May 3, 2010 and artwork must be completed and available for showing in Grand Rapids, Michigan during the Voting Artists’ Show & Reception on Thursday May 13, 2010.

Requirements

All participating artists must be at least 18 years of age by May 3, 2010, and a current resident of the State of Michigan..

All artwork must be original. All works must be attributable to the applicant artists and have been completed within three years prior to September 22, 2010.

All artwork is subject to the “Official Rules for Artists- Artprize.” These official rules can be found on the ArtPrize website at www.artprize.org

The three top artists will retain ownership and all rights to their artwork, subject to the rules and restrictions of Artprize 2010. The Artists agree to make themselves and their artwork available to VSA, Legacy Trust and other partnering agencies and sponsors prior to and during ArtPrize for promotions and marketing efforts.

The top three artists who receive the award will be entered into ArtPrize 2010 as a Legacy Trust Collection Award winner

Artists agree that if their artwork, which is part of the winning collection, wins any ArtPrize award, they will donate 25% of any award to VSA to create a special Legacy Trust Endowment Fund to continue arts programs for people with disabilities in the greater Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Winning artists will be notified by VSA no later than May 24, 2010, and will be entered into ArtPrize 2010. There are no restrictions on other artists, who are not part of the Collection, from entering ArtPrize on their own.


Artwork must be delivered to the VSA office in Grand Rapids, Michigan, by 11:00 am on Thursday May 13, 2010. All artists participating in this award contest are invited to attend, with their families, the Voting Artists’ Show & Reception on May 13, 2010.

By submitting an entry to the Legacy Trust Award Collection, a program of VSA arts of Michigan– Grand Rapids, you agree to be legally bound by these terms and conditions as well as the terms and conditions of the “Official Rules for Artists– ArtPrize.” If you do not agree to these terms and conditions, do not submit an entry to this award collection.

Application Process

All artist registration forms must be received by May 3, 2010 to be considered for the award and all completed artwork must be to the VSA offices by 11:00 am on May 13, 2010 for the Voting Artists’ Show & Reception.

Award Details

All artwork entered into the Legacy Trust Award Collection Competition will be included in a public, community vote during an Voting Artists’ Show & Reception on May 13, 2010.

The top three voted artists will receive a cash award of $500.

The award winners will be entered into ArtPrize 2010 individually, with all applicable ArtPrize 2010 entry fees paid for by VSA.

VSA and Legacy Trust will work with Award Winners to create artist statements, press releases and other relevant marketing materials as the Legacy Trust Award recipients and as ArtPrize 2010 contestants. After ArtPrize 2010, artists will retain ownership of their individual artist statements and other marketing materials.

VSA and Legacy Trust will secure venue space for ArtPrize 2010 for the Award winning artists and will pay for appropriate insurance coverage for the artwork during Artprize 2010—from September 22 through October 10, 2010.

VSA and Legacy Trust will provide suitable hotel accommodations for the artist and one guest for up to three days during ArtPrize 2010.

VSA reserves the right to reproduce images of artwork for organizational use and to publish names, photographs and/or stories and to photograph, publicize and otherwise use appropriately this artwork for exhibition and for educational and public awareness purposes.
